Opera 12.00 alpha launched, brings hardware acceleration, WebGL support

Following months of keeping a relatively low profile, Opera Software's next desktop browser, Opera 12 aka Wahoo, is ready to go bigger even though it's not finished. Actually it didn't even reach a beta phase but don't worry about a finish, feature-packed alpha build is awaiting download. The alpha release comes with an updated version of the 'Carakan' JavaScript engine, and has 40% faster load times, 30% less memory usage in JavaScript-intense sites, a new HTML 5 parser, WebGL support, hardware acceleration capabilities (yes!), revamped skins (which are now known as themes), and a new address field which offers search suggestions, as well as and improved results display in history and bookmarks. Plus there's the star function which enables users to add pages to bookmarks or Speed Dial quickly and easily.

Opera 12.00 alpha is available for Windows, Mac OS and Linux.
