About two hours ago in Hong Kong, Samsung Electronics and Google have taken the veil off the uber-rumored Galaxy Nexus, the very first smartphone to run the newest Android version, Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0). Android 4.0, which will be found both on smartphone and tablets, comes with a new interface, improved multi-tasking and notifications, a NFC-based sharing feature named Beam (for sharing contact info, links, maps and more), a new People app for better interaction with friends, offline search in Gmail, a new unlocking method called Face Unlock (just smile for the front-facing camera), a redesigned camera interface, a built-in photo editor, an upgraded tabbed browser, enhanced copy and paste functionality, a data usage page, and more. And that's with the software side.
On the hardware side, the Galaxy Nexus presents itself like a 135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94 mm candybar phone that weights 135 grams and features HSPA+ 21Mbps support (an LTE version will also be available in some markets), a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16/32GB of built-in storage, a 4.65-inch (1280 x 720) HD Super AMOLED touchscreen, a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and zero shutter lag (it can record 1080p @ 30fps video), a 1.3MP front camera, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC, an accelerometer, an eCompass, and a 1,750 mAh battery. The Galaxy Nexus is scheduled to roll out in the US, Europe, and Asia beginning in November.
