Ten more days until Intel launched the Sandy Bridge E desktop platform and we can fill the time by contemplating yet another LGA2011 motherboard, the Pure Black X79 coming from well-known graphics card maker Sapphire Technology.
The Pure Black X79 features a 7-phase digital PWM, an active cooler for the X79 Express chipset (and possibly a PCIe bridge chip), four DDR3 memory slots, four SATA 6.0 Gbps and four SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, and no less than six PCI-Express x16 slots (three are x16 electrical) that can be used for CrossFireX setups (apparently SLI isn't supported).
Sapphire's board also has dual Gigabit Ethernet, two eSATA connectors, six USB 3.0 ports (four on the back plate, two via a header), 7.1 channel audio, Bluetooth, a debut LED, UEFI BIOS, voltage read points, and Power, Reset and Clear CMOS buttons. Expect the Pure Black X79 to become available in maybe a week.
